Our Drive

Our drive this year will be some new routes mixed in with some of our past routes.

We hit the road early Sunday August 4 and drove to Deming, NM just west of Las Crusas. As I said, we are staying in pet friendly hotels along the way, because of our trusty Therapy dog Decker🐾🐾.

Our first night, we booked a room at the La Quinta Wyndham hotel in Deming. After a restless nite sleep and a lousy cup of coffee we headed out for Texas. Our route (which was mapped out months ago) took us through the city of El Paso and past the Walmart where the resent terrible tragedy occurred. Many of the changeable message signs read “El Paso Strong”.

Both Jeanne and I felt a sense of sadness and anguish as we drove through the city in silence.

We arrived in Odessa, Texas and found it to be an odd place. Although quite lucrative, the oil industry atmosphere is quite filthy!! We were asked by our friends “why didn’t you drive through to Midland?” Well, had we known we would have!

Tuesday we set out for Trophy Club,Texas where our friends Zola and Gary live. We last saw them in 2016 while we were traveling the south in the RV. We also found a nice place to have lunch in Thurber.

Wednesday morning after a great cup of coffee with Gary, and their two pups, Twila and Penny, we set off for a drive through Louisiana and into Vicksburg, MS. Zola had to leave early for work so we said our good byes before bed time.

We were both skeptical about the “quality” of the Quality Inn we had booked, however our choices are limited with Decker in tow! It onlytook us three tries to get a room that I could live in for the night. Now I know why I like the Jayco😩🤧!

Up at the crack of dawn, well way before dawn. We decided to drive all the way to Bluffton SC and avoid hotels for a while. Our drive will take us through Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and into South Carolina.
