Going Home

After driving from Iowa to Santa Fe, NM yesterday, we are on our final leg home this morning. It has been a wonderful three week, 5,544 miles (so far) journey. Decker has been a champ, performing his duties as a Therapy Dog magnificently. It was wonderful seeing so many friends in their home state. In addition, we both have a much better appreciation for the dry heat of Lake Havasu.

Thanks to those of you who followed us. Looking forward to being home for a few days before we leave for our next trip!

Storm Lake, Iowa

On our way home we decided to make one more stop to see our snowbird friends Lu and Kim.

Crossing the Mississippi
Welcome to Iowa

They have a beautiful home across the street from the Lake. We enjoyed the guided tour they took us on. They have lived in the area since childhood. We were lucky enough to see the thrift store where Lu volunteers and of course Kim took us to his favorite watering hole where we watched the Little League World Series game.

That evening we had a wonderful home cooked meal. Thank you Lu and Kim. See you in Lake Havasu.

Chicago and Baseball!

We arrived in downtown Chicago at the Residence Inn by Marriott and we were thrilled with our accommodations. Decker was treated like a rock star, receiving treats and hugs from the bell hops. A favorite was Rick, who was especially sweet to him.

We ventured out to Millennium Park and wondered about this odd looking sphere.

Walking around the area was crazy, the honking horns, the el trains overhead and the pace at which people walk. In addition, trying to find a patch of grass for Decker was equally crazy. Until we found this place…

After Decker had his fun we decided to take a stroll on the Riverwalk, unfortunately we were to early to enjoy a cocktail or beer.

Wrigley Field is amazing, great atmosphere to watch an afternoon game. Cubs beat the Giants 1-0.

On to Storm Lake, Iowa in the morning.

Our final day @ the World Series

Before heading to the stadium we decided to visit the downtown area of Williamsport. Lots of old brick houses and several shotgun houses. Everywhere there are signs and statues commemorating Little League. This community is very proud of this 75 year tradition.

Attending the World Series has been a highlight for both of us, one that I would highly recommend.

Photos from the downtown area.

After we grabbed a bite to eat we headed to the stadium to watch the game between the Caribbean and Venezuela.

Goodbye Williamsport

We Are At The World Series

After a day of travel through Virginia, Maryland and into Pennsylvania, we are ready for some baseball.

We did stop in Fredrick, MD to see our friend Kelly who is an Alderman here. She worked with Bob on the Fredrick Police Department. We were lucky enough to get a quick tour of her town and beautiful home.

After a delicious lunch in Fredrick we loaded back in the car and headed to Pennsylvania. Several of the games we postponed on Monday due to severe weather storms, so it was no surprise to us to have one hit us on the drive there. It was a pretty heavy downpour but, we managed to make it safely to our destination. We did see a pretty good fender bender but it looked like no major injuries.

We arrived at our hotel in Montoursville,PA, which is just down the hwy from South Williamsport and the Little League World Series.

Back @ It!

It has been a few days since the Southern Boil, what a party! Another boat ride on Lake Anna but, not before I got busy working on Bob’s land. He allowed me to mow his law on his zero-turn mower. Even though it was a hot humid day I did what I could to help out. Jeanne got a few pics of me busy at work.

We stopped by Tim’s house once we got on the lake . He built a beautiful boat house and dock and invited us onboard with his friends.

Afterwards we headed up the lake (I think) to meet up with some of the neighbors. We tied our boats together and got into our personal floatation devices and enjoyed the cool lake. Jeanne decided to stay home with Decker and do a little grocery shopping for us.

We headed back to the house and knowing it was our last day on the lake I took a few pictures of the amazing homes on this beautiful lake. Rarely seen in the western states.

Next stop Williamsport, PA!

Southern Boil

Kitty was up early on Thursday morning prepping for the Southern Boil Feast for the neighborhood. We had a group of 12 adults and one 10 year old, Weston who did well hanging out with the olds.

Prior to dinner Bob took me fishing down at the dock and it was HOT! Not the fishing unfortunately, so as of today I still have not caught a fish. However, Bob did snag this little beauty, he tossed him back after the photo shoot!

The other activity Bob and I worked on was shaping the shark in his yard. It has been a two year project so far and it’s looking pretty good!

Boating in Lake Anna

Lake Anna is one of the largest freshwater inland reservoirs in Virginia, covering an area of 13,000 acres. Beautiful homes surround the lake along with plenty of boat houses and boat garages.

We spent the afternoon riding the boat around the lake, and doing a little fishing. Amazingly, Jeanne caught her first fish and Bob had to take it off the hook and set it free for her.

Bob and the Lovely One!

Decker enjoyed his ride and kept an eye out for any obstructions in front of us.

After a great afternoon, we cleaned up and went to dinner at “The Cove” with Tim and Sam. Great friends of Bob and Kitty who we have come to know from their visits to Lake Havasu.

Bob and Kitty

We hit the road early morning and set out to drive the 516 miles from SC to VA. Decker has adjusted well to our travel days and is now able to give me the sign when he needs to go potty. Jeanne was in the mood for a burger so we stopped at Five Guys for lunch.

Arrived in Lake Anna ready for a fun filled week with Bob and Kitty and neighbors.

Prior to our arrival Bob sent us this picture indicating he was ready for us! “Thanks Bob”!

Last night we enjoyed a summer lightning storm and a beautiful sunset.

Hilton Head

Our last day with Carol and Peter we drove to Hilton Head to have lunch with Carols brother and family.

We had such a great time with the New Yorkers we may come to see you but, the goal is to get you all to Arizona for some fun!

We finally saw some wild life, an Alligator and Turtle. Luckily they are pals and did not want to eat one another.

We will be setting out on the road to Lake Anna, VA to see our Havasu neighbors Bob and Kitty. Get ready for the shenanigans to start, Bob, Sam and Tim beware, the girls are coming into town!
